I like to read some romance, alongside all the other stuff I read. Usually when I read something in the romance category it will have other things going on, like aliens, artificial intelligence, something more than just guy meets girl, fall in love the end. I read Charlene Teglia, she writes hotter romance, but she has all of those things, is very funny, and great stories to boot.
Also, I have to agree with another answer, I loved the Stephenie Meyer books, and I loved that Ron and Herminie (I am sure I am not spelling that right :) get together, even though that isn't a romance, it does have romantic elements. See, other stuff going on :) Also, Janet Evonovich writes some very funny stuff.
So, yep, from a guy who reads romance, and everything else, there you go.

No, I don't think so. Unless it is a classic novel such as Gone with the Wind or Wuthering Heights, which are worth the time to read as they are classic forms of literature. Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet (a brilliant political statement about the class system and discrimination against immigrants and groups) are also worth looking at.

Nicholas Sparks is a great romance author.
The Notebook and a Walk to Remember were excellent.

I don't read romance novels, but my wife does.
I never destroy a book, even if I don't like the content. I always make sure that all books that enter my hands are either stored lovingly, or given to someone who will enjoy them.

I never really liked harlequin. I like Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown. All their books are good.
