Nowadays, about 10M US if you plan to stay in the US. More generally, it is enough that you can live on the secure investment interest in a bank without touching the principle for about 60 years.
So if you move to a location where the cost of living is less, the amount can be less. This is a "minimalist" answer to the question.
A better answer is, "If you have to ask, you will never need to know." As an example: Bill Gates was well past the minimalist definition of Wealthy before he graduated HS.

it's more about how much you own rather then just how much money you have. wealth is passed down from generation to generation. anyone can be considered rich if they have a big house and a couple cars. but unless you own at least 3 mansions and have millions tied up in shares and stocks, youre not wealthy.

I've always thought the answer is how ever much makes you feel comfortable under current living situations
if you are not stressing about your finances day to day and living comfortably on current income you are wealthy right now, if though your current finances (income v. expenses, living situation, etc) are stressing you out then monetarily you are not wealthy
as long as you have supporting friends and family you are always wealthy though....
