Hi,
i want to buy a car but want to avoid the one that was used as a taxi - is there a way of checking any registry or sth like that? How to cope with that problem?

Cheers.

yes you can and should ask your dealer for a Carfax report. a carfax will tell you about accedents and things like that. This includes if it wasa taxi.

Apart from official checking on registrations, the mileage will be the dead giveaway.
Working vehicles such as taxis or rep's cars will have an abnormally high mileage. This is not necessarily a bad thing though as it also probably means that it has been regularly serviced - after all a working vehicle must be a reliable vehicle.

If it was used as a TAXI it would have been licensed by the local authority, who would have checked it was properly insured, so there would be 2 lines of enquiry you could follow. If it was a Mini-cab/private hire then it's a bit more difficult, but investigation of general condition and previous owners should help. If you are buying from a dealer then they must answer any questions truthfully, If they say I don't know then they are probably concealing something, so walk away.

A former taxi would most probably have extremely high mileage. It's also likely to be a large vehicle such as an estate or MPV. You can probably also see where radio antenna used to be as well as the radio and fare counter inside. There could also be marks on the bodywork where logos were placed. It should be pretty easy to tell.

Apart from checking the official routes - check the car for xs wear on seats, pedal rubbers, leather steering wheel etc.

Although IT IS LEGAL to turn back a vehicles mileage clock it is only ILLEGAL if you then try and sell it stating it has a lower mileage than it actually has.

Therefore a car showing a low to average mileage for its year but has signs of xs wear on seats, pedal rubbers etc would be a bit suspect - if in doubt don't buy.

You can go to http:carfax.com, and find out every thing you want to know about the car. Go on-line and do it yourself, because the car dealer's will modify the report. I don't know what it cost's, but it's not much.
