Sorry... this is a long answer. But... I truly feel your pain and pray what I've learned helps. I'm not kidding myself, I'm not the best at this sort of thing, so pls bear with me.
I honestly believe our only hope of stopping the two-party system and stop the bickering between Americans- over whether corporate entitlements are better than social or special interest entitlements and which type is more or less evil- resides in learning the truth.
The federal government must be returned to the rule of law, the written constitution. This very act will restore harmony by virtue of eliminating federal entitlements of any kind and returning the wealth to the people where it belongs. Also, it will return the POWER to the people- where IT also belongs.
We are a country of laws, not men. That expression means that all of us can count on opening the same page, reading the same printed words and know exactly where we stand. This is in contrast to what has gradually occurred over time where we now suffer the decisions (interpretations) of a bunch of politicians and or judges deciding on one day this is what it is or another day that is what it is.
Americans who understand the form of government our founding fathers set up to form this country and replace the confederation will take back their sovereignty and hold the politicians down to the rightful place- OUR SERVANTS.
I blame the education system for this crisis and urge everyone who cares to understand how our heritage was ripped from our learning institutions and ripped from the pages of history books. Learn about the truth. Know your constitution and hold the political servants feet to the fire and make them behave.
Bottom line... once you know the truth you are less angry with your fellow American who perhaps still does not know and place your anger where it belongs, on the crooked politicians who stole your heritage.
'Knowing' is ultimately 'peaceful'. It's the ignorance and un-knowing that creates dissention among us.

They all lie, they all cheat, they all suck, the question is which is the lesser of the two evils. I see people in the Republican Party that hold each other accountable like with Craig unlike what I see from the other side and BJ Clinton they protected him. The Democrats have people who are admitted ex-members of the KKK, yet the Republicans are the ones viewed as racist. Hell if you know your history about the KKK it was started to help get Democrats elected in the south by keeping blacks from voting by scaring them away from the polls. That bit of history is forgotten or left out on purpose by our liberal schools. Historically the right place to be is on the right, that is if you really care about human rights and equality and all. I mean was it a Democrat or Republican that freed the slaves? Was it the Southern Democrats that fought for equal rights or was it the Northern Republicans?

Did you know that only half the eligible voters even bothered to go to the polls in the last election? Did you know that only half the eligible voters are even registered? That's 25% of the voting public actually casting a ballot. The reason for all that hate speech is to get the crazy vote, no matter what side your on. Most Americans, like most of the people who answered this question, are apathetic because they realize whoever wins will just care on business as usual in Washington.

You are so right. If only people would come together as one and really take a good hard look at what each and every candidate is really about instead of putting each other down and keeping closed minds bent only on staying within one party or the other.

But that is never going to happen.
Sorry, I may sound like a pessimist, but I think it is being more of a realist.
I have never seen this country more divided than it is right now. Even studying the past and all of the 60's revolution brouhaha, I have never seen so much venom being spewed the way it is today. Everyone is more interested, me included it seems, it getting their point across than getting down to the business of our very existence.
Maybe it is the anonymity of this forum, but the hatred between the libs and cons and all that they hold dear, is just frighting.

you tell em. The country is one thing that everyone seems to have forgotten about. I love my country but I hate my government! My dad was military and I know how they can be. It seems as the years go by no matter who we have put into office they have forgotten what they are in office for. It sure as hell is not to cause more conflict. But what do we expect no one is out for anyone else they are out for themselves now. The world is surely in for a big surprise!

for a capitalist their nation comes after money. interest groups make sure they elect people who assure their interest. since the poor doesn't vote and it costs so much to run for office then it doesn't effect all of us the same on who gets elected. rich gets richer and poor , poorer. the way it is all set up it really doesn't matter who is elected! our policies are dictated by corporations and their interest! if there is not a radical change we won't resolve any thing anyway! peace

The thing that is most galling to me about this is that it's not just an assumption about different opinions. Many assume that we have very different values and different ideas of what is important in life. Family is important to a majority of people, as is God, country, freedom, etc.
I think we all have a common goal of a better country for all, just a difference in the means we believe are necessary to achieve such ends.
The fear mongering, ad hominem attacks and blatant lies are downright depressing to me. I don't care if someone calls me naive for wanting better for myself, my family and my friends and neighbors. Ignorance is the most threatening thing to freedom.

because any "facts" presented will either be cast off as liberal or conservative slander.
The election is so far off, I don't think people care very much about it right now. Or if they do, their mind is already made up and they'll bash anyone who thinks someone else would do a better job.
