To become a Psychiatrist, you need to go to medical school. Harvard's medical school is ranked #1 by US News.

Before getting into medical school, you will need an undergraduate degree. The best schools for premed are also the best schools in general. You can look at US News for the rankings of undergraduate schools.

Good choices would include any of the Ivy League schools. There are also several private schools that are considered as good as the Ivy League schools. They include Duke, Stanford, University of Chicago, Northwestern, MIT and Cal Tech.

Other good choices include the top liberal arts colleges -- like Swarthmore, Carlton, Williams and Haverford.

There are also a number of prestigious public universities -- like University of California at Berkeley, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, University of Wisconsin, University of North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

instead of looking for prestige look at what suits you the best, such as class size, cost, area, etc. i was the same way as you until i found west Texas a&m. they have the small class size that i need and a very low cost. and the best thing about them is that they started as a teachers college ( i am going into a secondary teaching degree) so i know that i am getting what i need for me.
