I am helping my mother with an afghan and have put it off for weeks now. Anyway she has blocks done in the afghan stitch and I have offered to embroider the pattern on the block. I have cross stitched before so I know what I am doing but using aida cloth is easy. I'm kinda getting lost on where I should start and where I should end my X. Does anyone relate to what I am asking?

Thanks!

It's really pretty simple. You cross the upright post. I normally put the needle thu next to the upright on one side, then go thru next to the next upright.

It makes much smoother stitches and the uprights give you definite markers.

I also use safety pins as markers when counting. Makes it much easier.

yes I did this on an afghan and it really looks beautiful when you 're done. what I did was draw a line vertically and horizontally in the pattern and used a basting st horizontally and vertically through the afghan so you can keep your design centered.this is hard to explain but you go in from the back and work your st over the horizontal line of the afghan st ,then you go up to the space above and carry on the same as you would if you were cross st on fabric. I found this web site that has a pic for you to look at . I do hope you can figure it out as it looks so nice when finished.good luck!
