It could be several items.
It could be your fuel filter, your rotor cap may be really corroded, or your spark plugs and wires may need to be replaced, it may also be the modulator too. Take it to a mechanic and have them check.
I recently had this problem on my 1990 GMC K1500, I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, rotor cap, and it turned out my plugs were not firing in the correct order, so I had the plugs and wires replaced and that did the trick.
It's not your fuel pump, because once that goes it's gone your truck won't run. Your fuel pump should be located on the driver side frame rail near the fuel tank, not near the carb.

Have you checked it for stored codes? Is the check engine light on? A sensor problem will usually set a code, a fuel problem will not. You can access the computer codes by locating the ALDL connector under the dash, and jumping terminals A and B with a paper clip. The codes will be displayed by flashes of the check engine light, starting with a code 12 which is 1 flash, a pause and 2 flashes. Each code will be displayed 3 times, afterward you will get the code 12 again. You can do a search for the list of codes, and also try chevy truck world forums for post of similar problems.

Does it die at idle or does it die when driving or when engine is reved a bit. If it ries at idle I would check the egr valve. It should be closed at idle, if it doesn't close it allows excess air in the idle system. If it dies while driving I would suspect a fuel pump if it is carb. syatem. If fuel injected you have idle air control on throttle body that causes this problem. I wish people would give more info. about their problems.

You could have several problems. The fuel pump could be going bad,it could be the coil and or wires breaking down after they heat up.It also could be that the valves need to be adjusted, because as the motor heats up the valves will expand causing them not to close all the way robbing your engine of power and causing poor gas mileage.
