If you want a fast read, read Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. It's very intriguing. It might offend some - there is violent and sexual content. The book is much deeper than just sex and violence however. If you already saw the movie and don't feel like reading the book, but you liked the movie, I would reccomend Choke or Lullabye by Chuck Palahniuk as well.
If you want a long, artsy read, read The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewsky. It is in a very non-standard form (some words are emphasized be different fonts or different coloured ink, some words are arranged on the page in different shapes, and the book is actually a "mockumentary", with two relating stories laid out next to each other.)
They're not the last books I read, but they are my favourite books.
The first two books are rather non-traditional.
If you want a tamer book, Carol Goodman writes some great mystery romance novels. They are VERY poetic, great imagery in all of them. And not to be sexist, but Carol Goodman's books are girlier than the books I usually prefer...so you might enjoy them if you like books like that.

It was Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows & it was fantastic.. I would definitely recommend the entire series to anybody. The story is very intriguing & really draws you in, it becomes quite difficult to put it down. It was a little sad reading the book because it was the final one in the series so now i'm looking for a new book to read.

IN FACT I READ THREE BOOKS ON PARALLEL DURING THE LAST MONTH:
1) CHICAGO ( for Egyptian author alaa aswany he is the Arther of YAKOBIAN BUILDING ) and i read it for the second time as i read it before on release
2) HARRY POTTER 7 awesome as usual
3) AWLAD 7ARETNA ( naguib Mahfouz's book which made a great fuss when it was released back in sixties and it was forbidden then it was back with permission of AZHAR )
believe me forbidding it is the thing which gave it fame because it sucks
and i try to read in QURAN too as far as i can

S. by Slavenka Drakulic
It's about a woman raped in a camp during the Balkan War. It's harrowing. I'd highly recommend it, but it's not for someone with a weak stomach.
