Absolutely not.
I mean, like UCLA beat USC last year, Cal could beat USC this year. Sport is sport, and Cal's a real solid team. But, really, on paper Cal isn't anywhere near USC. Nobody is - LSU is the only one who has the players to stand up to USC, and even they can't because of the quarterback position.
USC's defense is faster than Cal's defense, and USC's offense is far more potent (even with their number 1 WR and RB out) than Cal's. Seriously. Just better, faster players.
Anyhow - the only reason this question is coming into the light is because people have been down on the Pac 10 forever because of BSPN and the crazy East Coast bias of the mass majority of the media. It isn't a surprise to me Cal dominated Tennessee, and the rampant Pac 10 fan isn't surprised in the least either - why is the media? Weird. Whatever.

I think they have a serious chance. They play them at home this year. I don't know about you but for a 75,000 seat bowl (sound travels quickly out of a bowl) that place seemed pretty loud against Tennessee. Look to 2003, USC had a great team that year possibly even better than this year's team, Cal had a very average team (played in a pre-christmas bowl). USC lost in Berkeley for their only regular season blemish.
The 2004 and 2006 Cal team came very close (especially 2004) to beating USC in the Coliseum.
USC has a similar team this year to their 2003 team. Cal has about 5 times better of a team than their 2003 team. Why can't it happen again?

I like Cal to do good things this year...and if they take what they did against Tenn and build on it...they COULD beat USC. I don't know that they will beat them, but that's a good game right there, I'll be watching it and rooting for Cal...but only because USC is #1 and the only way for my Badgers to get higher than #5 is for more teams above us to lose or if we beat OSU and Penn State really badly...
Jackson's kick return against Tenn...talk about highlights...

Cal is finding to revenge final years loss to Tennessee because of the fact they have been overwhelmed and humiliated, yet this year it is gonna be a trench combat. it is gonna be a intense scoring game because of the fact those 2 communities the two have a large offense. yet Cal will win, because of the fact Erik Ainge has a broken finger and wont have the terrific acceracy. additionally anticipate DeSean Jackson to have a large game because of the fact he's a very explosive participant with magnificent velocity and the Vols protection wont save up with him. Cal will win this game
