If you have some extra money to spend, go with the fastest you can find. But the secret that the memory manufacturers don't want you to know is that high speed RAM doesn't really give a huge performance boost with the Core 2 Duos, it gives a slight boost, but not a big one. Considering you can get 2GB for under $100, and the performance models can run up to $300+, it really might be wise to invest the extra money elsewhere. To run synchronous with your FSB, you will need DDR2 667Mhz, so basically that speed or anything higher will work.

If you mobo supports the new memory standard then I'd go with DDR3 which now supports those speeds and faster. If not, then the fastest DDR2 out there & no less than 2 Gbs. (lowest being 1gb sticks)
Look around...OCz, Corsair, etc.
Look for memory that is "known" to overclock well & you can tighten the timings on.

If your motherboard is one of those overclocking boards and you plan to tweak your set up, consider this:

Otherwise a good brand of low latency ddr2 800 would be fine in unleashing the power of that speedy E6850.
