Hard drugs addiction same as Alcoholism are diseases and as such are recognized by the World Heath Organization. (W.H.O.)
Addicts and Alcoholics have never wished or target to become addicts , just like no one wish to have cancer or become a diabetic.
Though they can be dangerous/aggressive ( most of the time.)they suffer enormously psychically and in their mind.
They feel lonely and have a very deep feeling of inferiority and
worthlessness .
These feelings bring them to take refuge in Alcohol and/or Drugs .
They are usually also intelligent people who know perfectly well the harm they are doing to themselves and to their relatives but cannot control their addictions.
They are powerless.
They can be cured.
Treatment is long , painful and demanding but they can make it.
An interesting website to visit .

Reading some of the answers, I'm curious as to why people who probably go out drinking at least one night a week, think they have the right to call any-one else a loser? Just because a drug is LEGAL doesn't make it any less dangerous, or damaging to your health. Not many of us think taking paracetamol or a sleeping pill is wrong, but there are far safer ways to get rid of a headache or get to sleep! Just because a Doctor prescribes it doesn't mean it's non-addictive or safe!
Cannabis can and IS prescribed for medicinal use, a glass of red wine a day has positive health benefits.

It's not the DRUG it's the ABUSE of them that is wrong!

just depends. anyone who takes drugs or alcohol and then is to take care of kids or drive a car should be put in prison.

I've met heroine junkies before, it's always a sad story to see hwo physically addicted they are. I've seen the horrible pain thye go through when trying to stop.

I can side with people who take drugs to reduce real physical pain. I haven;t tried it because you can't order it easily over the internet.

With healthy people, the best I could say is drug abuse is irresponsible.

Pity some, look down on others, but it is not because of drug use, it is because they have an addiction. Certain Drugs in moderation are less toxic than drinking and smoking.

Addiction is the thing...whether it be drugs, alcohol, food, cutting.....etc. I pity some because sometimes people turn to these things because of unhappiness. I get angry at others because they should have known better.

Depends on what you class as a 'drug'. Nicotine is a drug, caffeine is a drug, alcohol is a drug, as well as all the other well known drugs e.g. cocaine, heroin, ecstacy, LSD.....
People have a choice. If they choose to take drugs then they also choose to accept the risks that come with taking these drugs. I do not condone drug-taking but it is part of society today. The only thing we can try and do is educate people.

I think they need help and believe that taking drugs is just a shield, as in most case people who take drugs have underlying problems than just the drugs.

I don't have anything against anyone who takes drugs. I haven't tried any, don't think I will neither... But I think if a person's been pushed around far enough, sometimes that person might feel like there is no alternative! I honestly believe that circumstances sometimes make a person feel cornered and they start to turn to things they shouldn't turn to.

I had a friend who OD'd on crack. While I am still angry with him, he will always be referred to as my friend! That's who he was, despite his addiction.

I am assuming you are taking of Illegal substances? I have no time whatsoever for them, if they want to shoot money up their veins or snort themselves dead then they have a problem - If they seek help and are genuine then they should be given all the help that is available - if not then what more can you do.
I am not even keen on taking prescribed drugs - only if I really have to!

I don't understand how they can think so little of themselves to do drugs. Why would you willingly put yourself in danger like that?
