In order of Operations you'd do What's in the Parenthesis first. 4-9 is -5. so you have 5-3*(-5). Now, you multiply/divide everything you can, left to right. so it becomes 5-(-15). When ever you end up subtracting a negative number, it's best to show the negative number in parenthesis.
When you subtract a negative number, you're really adding the negative number's absolute value, or positive form. -15 becomes 15, and the minus becomes a plus. So you get -5+15, which, if you add 5 to both sides, or do the math, becomes 10.
