Why do some people, in relationships, often lie about stupid little things that make no difference? Is it a test? Lack of confidence? Ashamed of something? Why lie if you expect to not be lied to?

People who lie about the little things often are hiding something even bigger and need the little lies to cover their tracks. Be careful with little liars because where there is little ones the big ones follow. When people question you a lot or accuse you of lying, it's often because they are feeling guilty about something they are hiding from you.

That's an interesting question. You should ask one of those habitual liars. Maybe they are afraid of being lied to so they lie instead. Maybe they are just paranoid.

personally, i lie about little things because i'm ashamed of stuff. not important things, it's just like where i study mostly. i feel stupid not getting into the university i wanted to get into. so i feel as if people are going to judge me when they ask me what university i go to. i don't know why i lie about it. it just happens. i always scold myself for saying the lie after. but at the same time, i notice i don't judge others who say less renowned universities so i still don't know why the hell i do it. lol. i'm a weirdo.

so shame is one factor

A habitual liar is too self-centered to notice. All they solicit is a reply which suits them at the moment.

People who lie are usually impulsive they get all mixed up in the lies and they don't think things out, they think everyone just shrugs it off and nothing can effect them this is how people usually catch them.

You're concerning yourself too much with what Christians might be [as atheists tend to do].
