We recently moved into a condo on the second floor. The balcony has rails that are wide and unsafe for our 7 month old who is learning to crawl. We would never let him out by himself but, we still want it to be safe. Someone suggested getting chicken fence and putting it up w/ twist ties... Any other suggestions? Whats safe that he won't be able to crawl up onto or pull down or even bite on and hurt himself?

Maybe even just try and get some door screen. Cause atleast then that way it doesnt have any pointy bits that he could hurt himself on. Or even invest in one of those door way barriers so that when u want the door open put it up to prevent him going out.

maybe its easier to block the entrance to the balcony, or how about zigzagging a strong piece of wide, water resistant cloth between the wide poles of the rail

They make a mesh for stair rails, that should work. However usually there are rules about spacing of rails on balconies and you can complain to the condo board and have them fix it.

I'm trying to find the stair netting.

Ok there is this:

if there is a door then lock the door or just fill in those wide spaces with plaster(the stuff you put on walls)

Can you fit a playpen on it? Other than that, I wouldn't think anything particularly safe.
