Black people do not "stick up" for each other. as that fool up there stated. Only some one who has never been around black people would even suggest such a thing. I think what she said was so stupid. I'm from the south and I have never heard of anyone still dog fighting. It's stupid to imply that all Southerners dog fight. I wish I could have reached into the TV and shook her for saying such a crazy remark. I don't agree with her or Vick. He's a moron. Millions of dollars to run up and down a field while the rest of America is struggling to pay their rent.

Whoopi is ignorant. I am from the South and can assure you that dogfighting is not second-nature here! It is cruel and a crime. Vick is a low-life, just like OJ, Lindsay Lohan, and all of the other celebs that forget that they, too, are American citizens and are bound by laws. Vick is so lucky to have all of the money and fame; why not put his "power" to good use instead of becoming a criminal? This is proof that money cannot buy common sense. People need to stop playing the race card. Whether someone is black, white, purple, or green is irrelevant; YOU DO THE CRIME YOU DO THE TIME! If you or I were involved in dogfighting, you'd better believe the law would come after us!

the same question with regards to this became into asked on yet another communicate board. i will save a while and concept and reproduction and paste the reaction that i've got provide: I stay in the South additionally and she or he's ultimate. canines struggling with is a concern and something that has been prevented and omitted. human beings tend to look any opposite direction, while they shouldn't. that is unhappy that as a exchange of being outraged, she tried to downplay the completed difficulty by using curiously making easy of it. "he's from the South the place canines struggling with isn't that unusual." that is a bloody, inhumane 'interest' that desires to be highlighted for what that is. Too many serial killers, newborn molesters, spouse beaters, grew up torturing animals previously they moved directly to extra beneficial and larger 'careers'. i'm chuffed the Vick became into caught and probably this could instruct a lesson to those who're additionally in contact in this horrid therapy of God's residing creatures. There are no excuses!

You guys remember when there was a school shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas by two students from that school? There had been another in Tennessee a year before. ALL the media was abuzz with talk of "SOUTHERN gun culture." "Kids are taught to use guns in the SOUTH." They'd say. "Oh horror of horrors, we have to do something about the SOUTH!" They screamed. Remember? Then it happened in California, then Washington, then Colorado, and on and on. So, it would seem that the problem wasn't the SOUTH, but regional bias. No difference in this matter. Dog fighting is still legal in Louisiana (OMG! the SOUTH!) and Idaho (NOT the South). ...and to make sure you don't forget, the SOUTH is rampant with racism, but the race riots seem to always happen in L. A., Detroit, Cleveland, Brooklyn, Chicago, Philadelphia.... - NOT the SOUTH. Regional bias is the problem and Whoopee Goldberg is an idiot and she does what idiots do!

While I agree that she wasn't defending him, I was offended at the fact she was feeding a stereotype. To say that dog-fighting in the south is cultural for blacks, and comparing it to chicken fighting in Puerto Rico is really poor justification. Michael Vick has been out of the poor south for a while now. This argument, that he didn't think it was wrong because of culture, would have been more convincing if he hadn't denied any knowledge of it, blamed his cousin, and lied to the police. If he thought it was okay, why didn't he say that? Even if he thinks it's okay to fight dogs, what is his explanation for torturing dogs that didn't perform well? What is his excuse for the gambling? Try to tell me he didn't know that was wrong?

I really used to like Whoopi Goldberg. Like you, I cant believe she is excusing Michael Vick's behavior. We have white men here in California dogfighting. What's their excuse? I had hopes for Whoopi when I heard she would be on the View. As of today, I've lost all respect for Ms Goldberg.

I don't think she was defending him as much as she was expressing her thoughts about the situation. I'm from the South and it is done here a lot and many men (black & white) consider dogfighting a sport. That's unfortunate. One thing good that has come from the Micael Vick incident is that dogfighting has been brought to the forefront and now perhaps we can eradicate it. It's an unthinkable act.

I have lived in the South all my life and never ever seen or heard of a dog-fight.
I do not agree with her statement. And I agree what was done to these animals is absolutely horrible. They are totally defensive, they depend on people to care for them.
Just because they were pit bulls, they are the ones that trained them to kill.
My family has six Pit Bulls and they are very obedient, for this is how they were trained.
The next torturing and killing would have been a human being.

Whoopi is telling the truth about a lot of dog fighting going on in the South. But does that excuse Vick's involvement? I think not.

I don't like Whoopie ,but I don't mind what she said, because it is true to some people think that is a sport and he was only doing things that came along with participating in a sport like that.Look at horse racing, horses are pumped with drugs and horses get hurt and they kill them ,same thing with dog racing, but it is acceptable so nobody pays attention to it.Hunting is another sport where people kill animals for fun ,but it is acceptable.I have seen cockfighting in the Bronx so it happens. Look at what people are doing to peopleThis modern day lynching of Mike Vick has to stop we as people have far more serious topics to discuss.
