Some of the same people who are slamming M. Vick and Whoopi today, would easily go to a bull fight if they were in a country where that was culturally acceptable.

So odd that so many people think that this is okay as long as it's not taking place in the USA or that the animal is not domesticated. Bull -vs- Man with knife picks and a sword is NOT an even fight!

I've said for years bull fighting is disgusting and tragic.
I just hope before they take that bull down he gets at least two of the guys in the ring with him!
And when they race the bulls and people get trampled i just shake my head like, you deserve it!
Dog fighting is disgraceful, any kind of so called sport that fights animals is just, i can't even find a word beyind disgusting, diabolical, but it's gone of for centuries and i just can't see any end, it's just disgusting and i'm tired of it!

Both are horrible. I can tell you the cruelty is about the same.
Bullfighting is not illegal in some countries that is the only real difference (except the bull/dog thing). Only in recent years has The U.K. outlawed foxhunting. It seems to be mainly a "cultural" gap. Not black and white but, socioeconomic. However many more blacks find it less acceptable than those who think it is O.K. . Cruelty to animals is a good indicator of a sociopath's behavior. Anyone who could possibly defend such a person is, to me, suspect themselves. Do not be fooled there is no excuse for doing that to a dog or any animal.

They're not in the same category....bullfighting is not bull vs. bull. I'd say a lot of people would have less problems with dog fighting if it were dog vs. man w/ cape. (I know they have spears too) I'd have no problem putting Vick vs. Wild Pit Bull though.

You don't know me, I would never go to a bullfight, quit lumping people into a category. I fight everyday for animal rights, do you?

Dogfighting is going on in our country and bullfighting is not . If we don't speak out for the voiceless beasts, they will be used and abused by men's savagery.

"To my mind the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human

it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man."

uh... a bull is a domesticated animal..They are not raised out in the wild , they are COWS, raised in herds , on farms and ranches , so they are domestic..
But to your question... Different cultures accept different things.. What we might call Taboo is perfectly acceptable in another country.. Just as they eat horse meat in European countries We think that is outrageous here and unthinkable. ( even though there are 3 horse processing slaughter houses in the US..really..really) If you tried to hold bull fights in the US You would hear plenty...they would make it against the law, if it isn't already. PETA would have a tizzy fit !

Because a bull isn't going to be nice. Notice people are more scared of bulls than dogs. Also dogs are held in a higher esteem that bulls.

May I begin saying that this is not a defense of bullfighting, about which I have very mixed emotions.

However,I have to say that dog fighting and bull fighting are not similar or comparable.

A dog has to be trained(instructed, induced,
coherced, even tortured)to fight. The training is done by human beings.
The animals are starved and rewarded according to the aggressivity they show(less aggression, less food). They are kept in dark solitary confinement and driven mad before they can reach the level of murderousness required in a dog pit.

The breed of wild bull that is used in bullfighting is known for its courageous and lethal instincts when it feels it has to defend itself. These bulls are not trained to do anything. They are raised in the wild, free grazing on huge extensions of beautiful cork oak forest, wooded hills, and fresh air. Their life, up until the day of the ¨corrida¨, is as natural and idyllic as can be.

Dogs are made to fight each other -dog against dog . A bullfight is a ritualistic duel between a man with a sword and a cape and a beautiful animal that packs over a 1000lbs behind a pair of long, sharp horns.
Many aspects of the bullfight are aesthetically pleasing and have evolved over centuries to actually celebrate and show off the characteristics of the bull: its intelligence, its natural courage, its lack of duplicity, its nobleness in attack and defense. It really is,for the most part,a duel between man and beast.
However, you can´t get away from the fact that, in the end,the outcome is always the same. The result that is desired is the death of the bull and no matter how it dressed up this is always painful and bloody and I am certain the bull suffers. You can not get away from the fact that the bull is in the arena in this duel because humans set it up. If left to himself,no bull would choose to fight this man with a cape.
That being said, the life of cattle destined for the slaughter house is infinitely worse and their death is horrible and mass produced. How many of you who complain about bullfights being cruel would forego your juicy steaks and hamburgers because cows have their throats slit on a mass production line after a life in a concentration camp?

I can find nothing good to say about dog fighting. Although I deplore the death of the bull and its suffering,it has to be said that only one species of wild bull can be used for bullfighting and this species has to grow up wild. Therefore, huge enormous tracts of land are kept wild for them. It makes economic sense for the land owners to conserve Nature because the wild bulls make money. Many plant and wild animal species (deer, wild cats, wild boar, golden and imperial eagles) survive today because their natural habitats are preserved intact for the raising of the bulls. Were bullfighting to be abolished, the vast majority of these lands would be turned into rows and rows of real estate development housing, malls, supermarkets etc etc.

While I can not find any defense for dog fighting,a case can be made for bullfighting. In Spain,Portugal and South America and parts of France bullfighting is culturally acceptable and part of the national tradition(although it has its fierce opposition too). In many of these countries men throwing each other across a ring and jumping up and down on each other and twisting limbs and wringing necks and screaming in pain while children look on and cheer would be considered culturally inacceptable and yet we have this spectacle on our TV's in the U.S. all the time.

In closing,it must be said that today´s dogs derive from canine species that were removed from the wild thousands of years ago and made into an animal that can not live without human love and affection. We have a debt as a species to care for dogs. A dog is only truly happy when it can give and show allegiance to a human. I don´t think this is true of any other animal. Dogs are the big success story of the human race. To train them to kill is a treacherous aberration.

They're slamming M. Vick so much, NOT because of the dog fighting, but because he MURDERED and TORTURED several dogs. If all he did was actively participate in dog fighting, people wouldn't be quite as angry about it.

I think it's just as bad. But a lot of people don't think it's as bad if it isn't a domesticated animal. I think it's all horrible from chicken fighting on down.
