Well, the first rule of debate is make sure you do not offend anyone. Suppose you are debating whether the Jewish religion makes more sense than Christianity. Don't say things like "Jews are better people than Christians." Use a sense of logic and common knowledge to get your point out. It's all about sticking to the facts, and never about stating opinions. (In this case, opinions are different than theories.) Make sure you do not include fallacies such as Ad Homenum (personal attack) or Ad Populum (appeal to popularity)

My best friend thinks she argues ethically all the time, but there are these personal put-downs she does automatically, trying to make a person feel stupid. Then I get mad and then later we say "love you"...
It's tough to have a friend.

ethical arguement is an oxymoron, discuss, do not argue, and if the other will not, then the only way you can express yourself is by what you truely belive, and saying, well, i blelieve this and you cannot say i do not, whether you agree or not with what i believe is a different topic all together, and let them dwell on it

Argue with a sense of humor, you will not hurt anybody badly but on that way you have had touch/move onces mind in expression your opinion or any comments. Try not to shout or keep your voice normal, although you are about to explode, so that he/she will keep listening and changing one's side or point of view.
