My friend borrowed my car and parked for me with the emergency break down. I got in the car and drove it home (10 minute drive at about 35 mph) before realizing that the emergency brake was on. Will this mess up my regular brakes in a relatively new car?

It probably "glazed" the pads and / or the disc / drum.

You should really go have them looked at.

Most of the national chains (Brake Max, Brake Masters, Midas, ect.) offer free inspections.

The emergency brake is and has been a somewhat trouble-free device for years. once you push in the pedal or pull up on the E-brake lever you're manually pulling a cable related to the rear brakes. The cable actuation reasons the rear shoes (or pads if equipped) to enhance onto the combating floor. using with the E-brake on won't reason any injury to the transmission. as a techniques because of the fact the tranny is worried this is not any diverse than hauling an extra 3 hundred-4 hundred kilos. The brakes besides the fact which will warmth rather rapid and glaze over. Being that the braking device utilized grew to become into in the rear this is merely somewhat an argument. A glazed pad in the front of a motor vehicle will fault only for some hundred miles in the previous carving itself down previous the broken fabric. The rear brakes besides the fact that supply little or no of the combating means on your motor vehicle (till you race it) and can be rendered merely approximately ineffective in the event that they are glazed over. A one time one mile journey isn't something to rigidity approximately besides the fact that, as long as you're motor vehicle grew to become into no longer in disrepair previous to the incident you may desire to be crusing delicate. stable good fortune and you may desire to truthfully confirm the E-brake status in the previous putting the motor vehicle in force!!

If your emergency brake allowed you to move the car at all you should have suffered no damage to your rear shoes or rear disc brake pads. It woulden't have effected the front brakes at all either way.

Ooops brake job!...............Sorry about that!

Rear brakes are your E-brakes and yes you'll need to pull off the rear drums and check to see if it ware them down so far that they need to be replaced.
