If it hasn't expired then what is the problem? Whether it sits in my cupboard or in a warehouse (most people have no clue how long it takes food to get from the manufacturer to their house) is irrelevant to me. Of course I would.

I ate a can of pineapple once. It was a new can, as in I just bought it... but it had dust on it... so who knows how long it was on the shelf. It wasn't expired.

I got violent food poisoning that led to violent seizures. I was hospitalized and really in bad shape for quite a while.

So, No I wouldn't eat anything out of a can that's been sitting for that long. Not intentionally anyway.

Open it up and look at it and smell of it. It should be OK if it's not expired and the can is not dented or bulging in any way. Most canned foods have a long shelf life.

Sure, as long as the can has no bulges or dents. Fair warning though, if the food in the can is acidic, it probably won't taste good even if it hasn't expired.

Uh, yes, why not? Thats what expiration dates are for, you just dont eat it after its expired. Can foods last forever. You stock up and keep them for disasters...

Nope. Those expiration dates are all in code anyway and nobody can understand them. Better to be safe than sorry!
