im not familiar with that game but i do know that when i got city of heroes a similar thing happend to me. i when into the options in the game and whent into the audio/video and changed a few video settings like refresh or frames per second and a few others and it fixed it. so try playing with the video settings in the game. if your game has a safe mode you can try it there to help keep the monitor on while changing the setting.

Most games put a lot more strain on the graphics chips than 'normal' use.

I would suspect that your graphics chip is overheating and shutting down and so making the monitor screen go blank.

If you have an application that will measure the GPU temperature, run that while you run the Sims and see if your chips are becoming hot.

To fix this you need to improve the airflow over your graphics card. You can get fans that sit in the slot next to the graphics card and blow air on it to cool it down. Make sure all your other fans are working.

It may also be that your power supply can't handle the load from the GPU (Some GPUs now pull more power than the CPU). To fix this you need a new power supply.
