like i would like the card so i dont carry cash...and a cell...to keep in touch with my lot...

Yes, but check the cost of getting money at ATMs, as most of the places you will go prefer cash over cards.
Debit cards are often cheaper to use at ATMs, but check with your bank, as not all cards are ready to be used abroad.

And check the cost for phoning out of the countries you want to travel.
I would have my family phone me, and only short calls, as you pay for receiving calls too.
You better of phoning from phone boots, with a prepaid card, you phone a local number, enter a code and the cost will be taken from your prepaid account. You can find those cards in post offices, tobacco stores and many small shops. Also ask at hostels if you can not find them.

Keep a little cash (in your own money) with you for emergencies. Use your credit card for the bigger payments like your hostel and train tickets.
And use e-mails. Since I started using e-mail my family worries less, because they know I will check my mail and I send the name of the town I am and I will be next, I do not need to have my phone on all the time, and I can even handle my needed banking when half a world away from home.
