The real and only reason is the electoral power Cuban immigrants have in Florida.
Political calculation over principal.China does much worse compared to Cuba in human rights specially towards Christians.The old pope visited Cuba and broke of relations with China cos they interfered with appointing clergy

Because China is not truely Communist among many other things. The largest reason however is that they have entered into many nuclear proliferation and ther such political agreements with the U.S. and the U.N. which Cuba has resisted.

#1 we don't have a trade embargo against China. #2 When we no longer have to be a protector to the scores of Cubans that come to our shores, then maybe we can talk. #3 What do you think we can get out of Cuba that we can't get now out of Mexico except for Cuban cigars?

Your question is erroneous. Kennedy enacted the trade embargo with Cuba and Clinton expanded it. They were both democrats.

Cuba does not produce anything. I cannot stand cigars. We have sugar producers in the US.

I don't want to do business with any foreign country, unless it is absolutely necessary. There's no reason we can't produce everything we want and need right here in the USA.
