She should be able to play on the computer, just keep good supervision on her when she uses it next time.

Well I'll tell you, I'm only 14, but I know a fair amount about modern tech. I'm going to exclude the weird fact that a 6 year old has a PS2 and is playing online games already.I didn't start until about 9. Anyways, the Wii has no features of a computer. It does not have a browser or IMing or emailing. It does not even have a wide variety of online games to play with other friends. Therefore not having internet, it is useless for ANYTHING related to school. And also there is nothing to worry about, except for the rating of the game. This goes for any game console. The key word in there is game. Computers have games too but mostly is for work. So I'd go with the computer because that serves dual purposes. I don't see what school projects he could be doing now at d or even until 3rd Grade, so he can use it for both online games restricted to a certain level and work in the future.

I started playing the computer when I was 6, back in the DOS days. I went on to become a software engineer, so yes, a 6-year-old girl can properly play on the computer without messing it up. I have even seen a two-year old boot up a computer and start up her preschool game all by herself. However, it sounds like your sister might be hyperactive and that she won't listen to you so I would suggest putting a password on your account or disabling the computer while it's turned off. On a desktop you can remove the power cord while it's turned off. If you have a laptop, you could get a locked box if you don't have any locking drawers or anything similar.

Talk your parents into buying a very used (old) computer with Win 98 on it. and show her how to do a computer. That way you can keep her off your computer. They could find 1 for about 25.00 or so. That way they wouldn't be out a lot of money. Then you wont have too keep fixing yours. Maybe your parents know of somebody giving 1 away.

Allow her a certain amount of supervised time all to herself. With rules, of course. I.E. You can use the computer for 1/2 hour everyday, only when I am with you. Every time you break a rule, you have to skip a day for every rule you break.
Explain that the computer is a tool, not a toy....even when your playing games on it.
If you make a rule, Write it down and be fair and consistent with her. Be careful, she might know more than you do. LOL

Physically keeping her away should work. But that's sad. I had my daughter at the computer before she could even talk, using a mouse as soon as she could reach, and she's had her own computer since she was 7.

What is she breaking? Is it that hard to fix? And why would your parents not be involved in working this out?

Your parents need to set these limits with her. Your computer should be in your room, and she should not have access to your room. Barring that, get a locking case if it's a laptop, or remove the keyboard and cover the computer when not in use. It can hardly be more expensive to protect the computer, than to repair it.

Protect the computer with a password at the time you sign in. But a password that only you know (obviously).

It is the most simplest way to prevent your sister from entering your computer.

HTH!

yes my 5 year old cousin plays on the computer and he is fine. He has never broken it. Just take some time and teach your sister what she should and shouldn't do on the computer and everything should be fine
