Pure hitting ability id say he could be, but hes up there with Cobb, Williams, and Rose. Great Company.

No way in, say, the top 20 or probably 100.
He's not the best now...by far.
He's a punch and Judy hitter.
And then again, he does not usually have a great OBP.
As far as getting hits goes, batting average is a fairer comparison of players than the number of hits, because of the differences in the number of at-bats a players get. Ichiro has an unusually high number. Other players won more batting titles than Ichiro, and often by greater margins.

he's the main suitable or on the threshold of the main suitable singles hitter ever, in spite of the fact that Ted Williams and Albert Pujols a protracted with some others Mickey Mantle, to call one extra power, you are able to now get rid of rather from Williams' stats as a results of fact he for the 1st 7 years of his profession baseball became into no longer integrated, and became into no longer completely integrated till approximately 1960? maybe slightly previously maybe slightly later, yet you apart from mght ought to verify out the years he spent in the provider so no Ichiro, and that i do think of he's a large participant isn't the main suitable hitter ever. he's plenty extra beneficial than Rose, who i think of is far puffed up by using too many human beings.

When Ichiro's numbers get parallel with Rose with his total hits, and Ted Williams career .400 batting average, he'll be in the same sentence every time somebody brings up either of their names. He has to be because he's done it in a "steroid" era without enhancements. That kind of achievement should be recognized as what it is - hall of fame material and considered the best hiiter to ever play. Until that day happens, he's the best hitter since Tony Gwynn, but not all time.

i don't think he is THE greatest either but he could be one of the top 5 greatest hitters ever when it's all said and done also someone mentioned his speed will go away i never watched him in batting practice but they say all he does is hit homeruns i think ichiro can pretty much do what he wants with the ball is how good he is...if he wants to hit a homerun he will if he wants a single he will for most part anyways

Maybe to Mariner fans, but to a true Baseball fan no. Baseball is a sport that measures players over careers, not seasons. That's what makes it Americas favorite past time. When his career is over this question could be revisited. I agree with some of the other posted answers as to him playing on a better team, and in the NL. Top Ten at least!!!

It is possible that his total hits from both Japan and the Majors will surpass both Cobb and Rose. By the end of his career it would not surprise me if he will be considered one of the top five hitters in baseball history.

Do you work at ESPN? Have you ever heard of Pete Rose,Ty Cobb, or Ted Williams. I'm a big Ichiro fan, but c'mon.

I'd go top 5
Williams
Rose
Gwynn
Dimaggio
Ichiro
Not to dis Ichiro or anything, but a lot of his hits are due to his great speed--lots of infield hits. The other guys I listed got their hits the old fashioned way.

I got into baseball when the 1989 topps cards were the coolest thing anywhere. No one has been better since that time. No one has even come close in my opinion.
If you ask me I think Ichiro is the best.

One could make a very convincing argument that he was. Wade Boggs was a great hitter in the modern era. Wee Willie Keeler was from a different time and hard to compare.
