Look at the 10 best educated states, the 10 wealthiest states, the 10 states with the best SAT scores, the 10 poorest states, the 10 least educated states, the 10 fattest states, the 10 fittest states, then over lay that with the blue state-red state divide of the last few elections. It presents a very interesting pattern. The best educated, the most fit, the wealthiest, the most productive seem to be overwhelmingly blue states. If the liberal Democrats are such terrible people according to the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity and the Republican majority on this web site, I would like for them to explain why this is so. The facts seem to show that your better off living in a blue state than a red state for the most part. Your opinions please.

To "Drink Me". The question wasn't about me. Do you have an answer to the question asked? I would love to know why the phenomina I asked about happened. We needn't go to attacking the questioner.

I'm not bragging here. I live in a red state, that seems to be turning blue though.

To "gubment" You are spreading lies here. Just because you say something doesn't mean it is true. Go the the facts as presented by the Census Bureau and then look at the way the vote was calculated in the last two presidential elections.

I am sorry I angered so many people on the "right". Why are you attacking me? Is it the Republican way? The same as I mostly hear on talk radio. It seems you don't let facts get in your way. I did not make any judgements I just asked why. Why are so many on the "right" making judgements about me?

It is amazing how just about everyone who submitted something ignored the question and preferred to attack the person asking. That seems to happen a lot when people are unable to come up with any coherent answer defending one idea or another.
In answer to your question, I don't think one is necessarily a cause of the other, but rather blue states have historically been more urbanized and red states are more suburban and rural, and this difference in demographics is what creates the differences. People in urban areas tend to be healthier because they walk more to get around for work and errands. Suburbs, which are more prevalent in red states are more car dependent creating a much less physically active group. Urban areas have larger school districts and budgets and this gives them more latitude to try new things. They can use one or two schools as test beds and if something works it can be implemented in all the other schools. Red states are less dense and school districts are much smaller. This makes it difficult to try out new ideas, because if they fail the whole school year for all their students could be wasted or seriously compromised, with only one or two schools there aren't many parents willing to take the risk. Blue states also tend to have higher tax rates which increases the per capita education budget, which is why nine of the ten highest paid teacher states are blue and the ten lowest paid teacher states are red. Wealth in blue states can be attributed to a higher average level of education, increasing average salary levels and the probability that the next "big thing" will come out of a blue state, which dramatically increases an areas wealth. Lastly, several people mentioned crime, but statistically, living in a red state is much more dangerous. Firearm deaths are higher in red states, the top ten per capita all are red states, highest suicide rates are in red states, highest drug addiction rates are in red states.
But all this isn't a red state/blue state issue. It is more an urban vs suburban issue. People in urabn areas tend to think both about themselves, but also about others, because living so close together, other peoples' problems can quickly spill over and become one's own problems, and this sense of community is lacking in suburban and less dense areas. It is also why people that live in cities tend to be happier and have more close friends. If there is any relation, it is because blue values more closely follow the views and values of urbanites and over time has made these areas blue.

. You know for reasons unknown to me I think people wouldn't look at overlay maps based on education, wealth, health etc. I believe politicians aren't going to search into a deeper truth about each state habit’s. They really just want a vote and truthfully no vote matters as it did years ago. Esp. since Bush lost the popular vote in the Gore Election. I think the elections are rigged so that the corporate powers that be have who they need in power. Also I think a lot of people don’t even notice and see these problems.
Sure a blue state might have the best fit and well to do people but that is in part to the diversity that these 10 states have. I don't mean by population I mean their proxy towards businesses and their owners and heads of state. That being said I think the blue states would have the ten best just due to the amount of viability to information, the same info that helps them find the right education and make their own minds about what to do tomorrow, where as I do notice a lot of the red state people will do what ever the TV tells them to. They do no research and just go by the general phrase “I do what he’s/she’s doin” Travel to the states with the top ten, and the bottom ten. You’ll find my opinion is based off a general fact about a lot of these people. No offense to them or even myself. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I do research things before I jump on the wagon. That is why Rudy is not getting my vote. Nor will Obama, I am going for Edwards, despite his hair cut costs he has the right idea, the right way to help with the problems of this country. IE over taxing the people who make under 200K after all the idea that putting a higher tax on the majority just won’t work…

My opinion? Like millions of other Americans, the thought of living in an over-crowded city in a state that has far too many people makes my skin crawl.
But the snobbery and elitism you show in your "question" just reaffirms my belief that the left is clueless.
To Jim, below me - ROFLMAO! Thank you for the laugh!! Be a gent, would you, and remind me....*which* party caters to the poor and uneducated? It's the left who tells the poor that the right doesn't care about them. It's the left who tells minorities and women that they couldn't possibly manage to find a job in this day and age on their own merits. And I thought the propaganda was that we're all rich - this week, we're poor? I can't keep up.

I don't think it's a secret that the republican machine targets less educated people. They are more easily manipulated, and have a narrower viewpoint. Just scream terrorist, or gay and walla votes. People like Limbaugh, and Hannity play off those peoples fears, and exploit them to the extreme, there audience never seems to notice that they are lying, or that their arguments have absolutely no merit. I have never met an educated person, be they conservative, or liberal that listens to those people. I find it no surprise at all.

shhhh! If a liberal says this stuff they are elitist if a conservative says it than it would be gospel. Especially if aimed at the other side. You are going to get some real interesting answers on this post. What would be great is if you could post some way we can double check your statistics. Where can we do an overlay or make a matrix that would show what you are saying is indeed true.

You need to look a little closer, county by county. You will find that the majority of the richest, most highly educated, and least crime-ridden areas are the red ones.
Crime-infested urban areas are overwhelmingly blue. Why is that?

There are no blue states, only blue counties and cities. You're supposed to say it's the Republicans are the rich ones. Moving to a blue place won't make you blue. The logic you use there is just stupid.

Interesting. If there are so many super educated blue-staters, then how come Bush got elected twice? And worse, how come your party claims it will do all these things (environmental, impeachment, end the war) and yet does nothing except add pork to bills when it gets in power?
