Congrats! I have just gone through this and it is a 'nightmare'!

You have to contact everyone, some will want proof i.e. your marriage certificate and others won't.

Here are some that I can think of that I had to contact...
1. DVLA - Driving Licence
2. Passport Office
3. Bank
4. Council - council tax
5. Water, electric, gas, telephone - bills etc
6. Mobile phone company
7. TV Licencing
8. Insurance companies - home, car etc

Take your marriage license to the DMV and get a new Drivers License, then contact Social Security, your bank, all your credit cards/creditors, etc and find out what they need to change the name on your accounts with them. Some may just want a photo copy mailed or faxed to them. It varies.

Take your certified marriage certificate and a form of ID to the courthouse and get a name change form. Fill it out, turn it in and you'll get a new SSN card with your married name on it.

Contact your social security office first, find out what you need to do to change your name with them; then go to the DMV. Once your name is changed on the social security card and on your drivers' license, you will have to change it everywhere else (passport, bank accounts, credit cards, etc).

You'll need your marriage certificate and you go to the Social Security office and present them with your marriage certificate and ask them to change your information. They will process your request and mail your new SS card to you. You can also talk with your utility companies and fax them over a copy of your info and have them change it in their system to where your billing statements will be in your new name. Take your marriage certificate over to the DMV and have them change your Drivers License also. I hope this helps. :-) Congrats on your marriage! It's challenging, but also a blessing!
PS: Don't forget your bank accounts...

Congratulations. The first stop must be the bank. Armed with your marriage certificate and birth certificate, its a fairly straightforward procedure. After that, its a process of elimination. Anything that arrives in the post with your maiden name - go change it. Get the important things dealt with and the rest can wait!

Have a look at this website if you are in the UK: it should answer all your questions, and is official.

Your name does not automatically change upon marriage like some people here are suggesting, although you can change your name on marriage if you want to.

Congrats! You probably need to take your marriage certificate with you to the DL and social security offices. You'll need to redo your paperwork for tax purposes at work. Notify your car insurance co, credit cards, bank and any other company that needs to know. I think you just have to verbally tell them.
