This whole dogfighting thing is ridiculous. Its getting so much coverage, and its so trivial. I think it all boils down to a black man who's in the national spotlight doing something that people frown upon. If he had been a millionaire (not billionaire) oil tycoon or something like that, the story would be buried in the backpages, he'd get a suspended sentence, and you'd never hear another word about it until he died. I just think the NFL, the league of boozers, killers, and abusers was WAY too hard on Vick for an offense that happens everyday, everywhere.

He was a millionaire foootball tycoon... and that's what makes it all so incredible. He's throwing away a career and big endorsements of mega millions.... for the scummy , low life betting world of dog fighting?? Vick is mssing some critical brain cells.

Where exactly does this happen every day and ... everywhere . Everywhere ???

It's getting publicity, as everyone has pointed out, because he is a public figure. If he were some schmo nobody knew fighting dogs in Virginia or wherever, it would be in the local news and fade. But Michael Vick is a well-known football player who is also known for a few on-field antics.

Why people are more angry about a guy who murdered dogs than a guy who beats his wife/girlfriend is beyond me; I'm equally angry about both and know that a guy who abuses animals is but a step away from abusing humans. Maybe Commissioner Roger Goodell will start cracking down on the thugs and felons who infest the league. I'd like to see more suspensions for players who give the league a bad name. Playing professional sports should be a privilege, not a right, and those who abuse it, lose it.

And two very white Republican Congressmen have been featured in the news for their troubles with the law. Their sexual indiscretions haven't exactly been buried in the back pages, oh, no. Or haven't you heard of David Vitter and Larry Craig? It's certainly not as bad as dogfighting, but I'd like to think Congress members have a little more class than that.

Because he's a famous QB int he NFL. If he was someone that nobody has ever heard of, then of course it wouldnt be front page news. But everyone who watches football has heard of Vick. Its the same thing as all the other stupid celebrity news- why would you really expect this to be any different? And I do not think the NFL was too tough on him. He's going to jail for a good while- the NFL didnt reinstate Odell Thurmon because of a simple DUI with very little jail time- so why is that OK, but they are "being too tough" on Vick? Let Vick rot, he's a piece of slime anyway.

No it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with him being a public figure. If he was not a in the NFL it would have been on the local news and forgotten about. Football players are people our kids look up to and want to be. Fact is he was held at a higher standard then us "regular" folk. People with money are often in the news for things that happen everyday to people down the street. Paris Hilton's trial and subsequent jail time big news she is a millionaire(kind of). Same with Senator Kennedy, the Utah Senator (cant think of his name off the bat). Please don't make this about race its about him being a public figure ,that's all.

Wow, what a question. I have no idea why it's so highly publicized. I mean, here you have the most popular player in the NFL facing several years in prison. I mean, certainly if they didn't report it, when the NFL season started and suddenly the Falcons had some no-name playing QB for them and Vick was out of the league forever, certainly no one would even notice!!

Another person making excuses for him saying it's about race. Unbelievable.

well, how often do you hear about any man, not just black, killing dogs with his own hands because they didn't win the illegal dogfight he had on his property? And a sports figure who has kids looking up to him? This sort of offense as you call it dosn't go on everyday everywhere, I think you are another Vick idolizer who can't see the forest for the trees.

I wish that NFL players who got into trouble for running down and killing a mother while driving drunk, arranged the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, and who got into a hottub with his underage babysitter and some of her friends had garnered as much outrage as Michael Vick did. The relative lack of outrage over these cases make me wonder if a lot of people consider dogs more important than humans.

The media moguls have been racist for many years and that is why the Vic thing has been so blown out of proportion. I think abusing animals is terrible but did not warrant the media attention it received.

because he is a football player who contributes so much to the human race by chasing after a pig skin ball and makes more money then all of us on here combined.......yeah right.......

He is a product.....He is owned by the NFL....he represents an organization and gets paid dearly to set examples to the public that give him all of it....Little kids have sports hero's, and perhaps they are making an example out of him, Oh well I say, I could care less what they do to him!
