What is your view on illegal downloads? legal i mean you can with a small degree of effort get a copy locally in your country

I see more and more ppl downloading what you can get at Best Buy or Barnes and Noble without thought as to the effects of stealing. The amount of ppl who ask can i steal and where is sad.

The man your sticking it to is everyone it's like setting the coffee shop on fire cause you don't want to pay $8 for a cup! Then don't! Find it some where cheaper, but cheaper means that you buy it! Not steal it!

I love anime i have Licensed and unlicensed. If it's in this country i buy it! If it hasn't hit the shore of my country or isn't out on dvd I ask for it with forums of ppl like me who want it legally if it's in the theater buy a ticket!

for a good idea of Licensed anime see http://www.animesuki.com/doc.php/licensed

if you want things free try working 4 free
you want better then make it.
See if you're upset your movie is on a p2p while you work 2 jobs

Matt i agree if you on the fact that some America companies just don't get it unfiltered= good
One piece is a great example of 2 things company screw up and fans getting their way as it is being rereleased uncut revoiced by adv many have uncut ver. of the anime but we still must ask. Tell them the sub's sucked

i told them about a glitch in 2009 and they sent me a new one it took a month cause it was a big glitch but my voice counted!

Steev-o that is a great idea and many bands have started to say if it's good they'll by it. thus making better songs not just 2aCD but it's yours you have the right to display your music What if someone else was doing it making a buck off your work or loading a crap sounding recording making ppl say i ain't going to see them. Is that fair to you, hell no!

capitalism is the only way to effect capitalists show them you will buy if it's good Make your money count! be heard! They are starting to see We just need to support good companies like ipod, ADV

otaku in need i am afraid that the internet is like a shotgun i was talking mainly to Americas as we are the pirates without need, not robin hoods, not stuck in BFE or a country without copyright laws. Just thieving lil sob's. we as Americas see the UPS ads and the internet and think anyone can get anything but it just isn't that simple my folks lived in the Philippines in fact my mom when to school at the university of the Philippines not the main campus but the one up the hill she worked at Clark til 73' she always told me of her Tokyo blood runs she would get things she couldn't like cheese. Many ppl don't even think of that as a possibility in their lil lives but download like it's all free to make. Those ppl who worked on the films are the ones losing then we lose as companies close visious cycle it is.
what makes the movies so expensive in your country is it the tax or the expense of subtitling? imports here are still high but many companies are buying them making it domestic

I both buy and download anime. However, I wish there was a way to directly pay the original makers of anime without letting the licensing companies in America see a dime. I swear that they butcher 90% of anime that comes here.

Let's look at One Piece for example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/82/Sd_helmeppo.jpg . The right one is what I get from pirating. The left is what I get from 4kids...

Another example would be Azumanga Daioh. I just recently bought the box set. But the dubs were terrible (Chiyo-chan made my ears bleed and Osaka got a Texan accent...). That's fine, I usually watch subs anyway. But the subs were awful as well. There were ZERO translation notes, the font was horrible and pixelated, and I could tell that they were mistranslating things. So, I stopped the DVD, turned on my computer and downloaded the entire series from a fansub group. I was able to watch it with high quality subs, translation notes, and an accurate translation. What did I pay for?

Heres another example: Card Captor Sakura. First, they just remove the whole gay love plot (I mean come on, it is a children's show right? We can't have them gays...). And then theres that episode Kereberos gets drunk early on (he's the stuff doll). Well, we can't have that either. Let's just not show that episode, or even release that on DVD. Here is a list of even more butchering if you are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardcaptors#Plot_Differences .

I just listed three examples of the crap licensing groups do all the time. I have no problem paying money for anime, but I don't want to pay $30 for 4 episodes 2 years after they aired in Japan when half that money is going to pay for dubs I won't watch, rewriting the script, airbrushing "offensive" things out, and mistranslating things. So I really just stick with purchasing only the dubs I enjoy (Princess Mononoke, Full Metal Panic, Cowboy Bebop, Read or Die, etc) and find the rest elsewhere...

Unfortunately I have to say Pirate but I'm not an idiot either.

You must know that there are a lot of countries where licensed anime is not distributed and are virtually non-existent. One good example is my own. I don't live in America, I live in the Philippines. A third world country (heck I don't even live in the capital, I live in one of the provinces.)

Piracy is rampant here because most of the licensed and original stuff are priced so high even middle-class people like myself find it too expensive. And you know what? Even the pirated stuff is only limited to the most popular titles (e.g Naruto, Bleach, Gundam) and titles that are for people with more personal preference don't exist at all.

It's even worse with manga. Its hard enough as it is to find a bookstore that even has two or three titles.

I download 'illegally' cuz I'm not sure if my parents would like it if I spent 3 months of savings just for something I could've gotten with 3 days or better yet none at all.

You may be able to stop people from downloading in America but in other countries it's currently impossible since a majority of the masses just can't simply afford originals (once again, middle class included).

Unless of course you have a magic genie that can turn a poor country into a rich one overnight.

I'm not a pirate and I don't agree with people that keep downloading shows and movies. I see alot of people here on yahoo answers that are constantly asking for sites to download for free. It makes me sick. If you truly want these shows and movies go buy them like you should. The only thing you are doing by piracy is taking money from the people that are working for the shows and movies. It's just not only the actors and producers but those with the lower paying jobs like assistants, caterers, grip people and so on.
Also piracy will take away the ability for studios to dub anime, make movies, or t.v. shows because they won't have the capital to produce anything. If affects many things and people all around not just a few.

This entire culture of capitalism squeezes my money from me at every opportunity.

I will take anything for free if I can get it, legal or not legal, and spend what's left over on things I need, like food and shelter.

As a musician, an artist, AND a pirate, I want people to be exposed to my work at every opportunity. I don't create to make money. I create because if I don't, I'll explode. If my band's songs get downloaded and traded for free, that means people like them, and they'll come see me play when I'm in town. Therein lies the reward, not in some government-sanctioned portrait of a dead president.

That's just one idiot's opinion.
