There is a competition held locally every year to answer just that question! The winners usually use styrofoam and some sort of parachute, but not always. I have seen styrofoam closely fit around the egg and then a crushable framework of soda straws built around that to absorb much of the impact. One ambitious team built a double-layered straw structure. It looked like the Death Star from Star Wars without its skin. Hint: if you try that, use bent paper clips taped to the corners to hold them together. One clip will do two corners.

When we did this in 6th grade, we could only use drinking straws. The only kid that designed something to keep the egg intact left room for the egg to bounce a little bit otherwise the impact just pushed the "guts" through the shell. Sorry - it was a long time ago and that's all I remember.

Use the newspaper and paper bag to make parachutes and then create a hollow for the egg to sit in out of newspaper. If you can soak the egg in vinegar for 24 hours and it becomes a bouncy ball. Or you can just drop a chicken from the height and say the egg didn't break.if the teacher is angry say you give her 1/2 the chicken.

Impact reducing gel and a hard container. Conect that to a parachute and you could even drop it from outer space I would presume.

Straws. Lots and lots of straws. Basically you want to make a sphere of straws and have the egg sit inside of it.
