I left a job and took a huge salary cut in return for peace of mind. Money doesn't mean a whole lot when you have an upset stomach and are plagued by thoughts of work in your off-time.

I understand wanting to look good in front of your former peers/classmates...but as you said if the job is fulfilling to you, and you're happy with your life, what does it matter? Some of your former classmates may be unemployed...at least you are earning a wage.
I'm not doing what I'd like to be, and I'm making less money than I was 5 yrs ago, but it pays the bills and could be so much worse...I'm not ashamed, just not really satisfied either.

Just lie about your job like the rest at the reunion will be doing, go... If your cashier at Mic D's you are now the shift supervisor simple, do you know what he does... So on ...
you never mention wage, if they do, say between 30,000 (15 an hour) and 40,000 (20 an hour)
Have fun....

Yes, everything else doesnt matter...how much you earn or what to say to others as long as you are happy. I guess having passion for what you do wouldn't make you ashamed or embarassed of what you do for a living. People wont judge you 'a loser' if you yourself don't feel you are. Try not to be judgemental about yourself. Many people have changed careers for something they love more....show them you love what you do.
But first, be sure you really do ok?

Just leave the "square" blank. And when someone asks, just say: "I don't want to talk about it". Be the "mystery woman". Have fun. Don't let the reunion be about competition. Refuse to play the "game".

Whatever you say dear..
If thats really how you feel then I dont see why you wouldnt attend your reunion.. Unless there's another reason you are avoiding it..
I think you should go.. Whats the worst that could happen?

Well, if you are happy, then why do you care what strangers and acquaintances think of your job? You don't need to impress anyone or explain anything to anyone.

Just tell them that you are a self-employed consultant. That is generic enough.

If you personally chose your own occupation, I don't understand why you'd be embarrassed of it.
