How can I be more social?

I've always been really introverted. I want to stand out from the crowd, but I don't see how I can do that (without dyeing my hair pink or something). If I'm really nice, I'm ignored, if I'm sarcastic, I'm called a *****.

I'm not that pretty or tall or anything, so I usually get guy's attention by being a little sarcastic to them. Trouble is, they never ask me out or anything because they think I don't like them.

It feels as if everyone got these lessons on friends when they were in kindergarten and I just missed out. I never know how to approach or just talk to people.

First, figure out who you are and get comfortable with yourself. Be confident (not arrogant or cocky) with yourself.

Second, skip the sarcastic stuff, it doesn't seem to be working for you. Listen to what your friends say and take some tips from that. You don't have to copy them word for word, but you should be able to get the jist on starting a conversation.

Third, most people like to talk about themselves and since you're kind of introverted, use that to your advantage. Get the guy or girl talking about him or herself.

Next, learn how to flirt a little when you are talking to a guy you like. If he doesn't get the picture, try dropping some verbal clues (Maybe we can hang out later, You're fun to talk to, etc.).

Finally, never over do it! Don't be too sarcastic, wait for the right moment and make it about something other than the person you're talking to. Don't be overly nice and don't go overboard trying to get attention.

You can do this! Standing out in the crowd doesn't necessarily mean by some physical attribute like pink hair. It could mean excelling at a particular sport or talent (like singing or artistically). It may take some time and practice, but don't give up. It will get easier the more practice you get.
