Fanciest places can be different for all people. If you ever watch "the hills" it shows the trendy places as well as the nice places. Some people think "fish market" is fancy or "ruth chris" steak house is fancy. It all depends on your own meaning

I agree with Mastro's, 21 Oceanfront & The Ritz Restaurant in Newport.....also to suggest The Dining Room at the Ritz Carlton, The Studio or Loft at The Montage-and for North OC, The Cellar is an incredible underground wine cellar that has a very small intimate, supperclub type of feel-anyone would LOVE it there!

All good choices so far, here are a few more: Madison & L'Opera on Pine in Long Beach. - Madison is a former bank that still has the vault. The entire place is gorgeous art deco. The Ritz (not Ritz Carlton) next to Fashion Island in Newport Beach. - It looks like nothing on the outside. It's a OC landmark once you are inside. The company that owns their lease is not renewing is after January 2013. So if your friends have not been here, they need to visit before it closes.

Three ideas:
- 21 Oceanfront - across from the Newport Beach Pier. Fancy, great food, and a nice walk on the beach
- The Hobbit in Orange - supposedly the food (prix- fixe menu) and wine are to die for (I haven't been yet)
- The Ritz Restaurant next to Fashion Island (not the Ritz Carlton, the Ritz) - great, if heavy, food and live piano music floating in from the bar.

These are all places you need to dress at least elegant casual to eat in..........

I really love Mastro's Steakhouse off of Alton near south coast plaza. The steaks are delicious. I also recommend Fogo de Chao, a really nice brazilian restaurant in beverly hills off of la Cienega. Both places will cost around $150 and up, for two people, but are totally worth it! Have fun!

Any restaurant in the Patina Group will give you a very memorable meal. In Orange County I like Leatherby's Cafe Rouge. In L.A. Patina at the Music Center is wonderful!

A rather nice fancy place to go in Beverly Hills would be The Stinking Rose. It's a garlic lovers heaven on earth! I love going there.

Order the Bagna Calda ( Garlic soaking in a hot tub ) to go with your house-baked focaccia bread and most definetely the Forty Clove Garlic Chicken. You won't be sorry! Be sure to call early for reservations.

Wherever you go, I hope it will be a great one that she will not soon forget!

I agree with the Orange Hills in Orange. I like the Orange County Mining Company as well (same area as orange hills)
Also the Rusty Pelican on Coast Hwy. in Newport if it's still there..(It's been years for me)
