It is NOT a southern thing, it is a cruelty thing! Whoopi's mentally incompetent defense of Mr. Vick is ignorant, selfish, and racially biased. She is not to be taken seriously just like her counterpart: Rosie.

I don't think that it was a defense of Michael Vick...What he did was wrong (on many levels)...I am also from the South...and while I find Dogfighting to be absolutely awful, I think that it is something that is predominent in our area. I think that we might become more desensitized to it, because it is something that we have heard about and are aware of. This is certainly not a defense for Vick, but I have to agree with Whoopi, in that perhaps in Vick's case, it could have been something he was exposed to and even though surely, he knew it was wrong, he may have rationalized it as something that is acceptable due to the frequency that it may (have ) occured in his area or by people in his support system. I think everyone is in agreement that it was a horrible thing no matter where you are from!!! I think Whoopi was just trying to offer another "View" on the subject.

Dogfighting is common in areas with a lot of poverty. I think they go hand in hand. I live in the South and I have known of people to fight dogs.
But it doesn't make it right. I think dogfighters should pay for their crimes. I hate that it was Vick that was made an example of but he should be held accountable for his actions just like anyone else.
Shame on Whoopi for even making the suggestion that something so cruel is acceptable!

I question her interpretation of the "deep south". Newport News, Va. might be in the "deep southern" portion of our State, but I've never considered Virginia(my home State) the "deep south". I think she was grabbing at straws, in trying to defend him. He did wrong, there's no justification for it. He lied about not having any part of it. He now admits to all, even the lying. Whoopie could do much better.

I live in the south, the bible belt!! Have never heard of anyone around here doing that.....Just another reason I don't watch that stupid show......I hated it when it first came on and would watch reruns of Flava Flav repeatedly before I'd ever watch that stupid show!!!!! What the hell is Whoopie thinking? I always thought she was real and down to Earth, making a statement like she supposedly did, is it a "race" thing?? It's 2007 for crying out loud!!! When will adults act like one!!!

I'm in the South, it's very cruel and I don't know anyone who thinks otherwise. I used to like Whoopie, but I'm not so sure now.

I really have nothing against Whoopie, but this is ridiculous.
"Goldberg pointed out that Vick was raised in the South.
'This is part of his cultural upbringing,' said Goldberg."
Do I even have to say it? Slavery was part of the "cultural upbringing" in the South for hundreds of years. Something tells me she wouldn't think that was OK!

It's not just in the south, but in many countries around the world. So it's about time someone rose above the animal obssession in this crazy society to spell out some of the truth on TV. Get over it!
To tll:
you ARE dumb, and you ARE insulting the "intelligence" of others like you in this country. To learn what good sense is, read kristy's response.
