There are many ways to do it. It the drive is not yoru boot drive then you can re-format it from the Windows user interface. Odd click on My Computer and select Manage then select Disk Management. Odd click the drive that you want to format and select format. If teh drive is a boot drive then you need to boot to DOS or a command shell and use a disk utility like format or FDISK. DBAN is a low level formatting utility that will not just erase the data...it will make that data forever unreadable. You will need to use FDISK and Format afterwards to repartition the drive for use.

Agree with CQ - if you are getting rid of the computer, destroy the hard drive. These hard drive cleaners still leave data even after seven or eight runs.

Push the windows key and r on your keyboard, or just go to the start menu and click "Run..." Type cmd in the box and hit enter. Run the format command from there. If you have an older Windows version, you can use fdisk from the DOS prompt.

Securely, or so you can use it again?
Securely, take it apart and destroy the platters.
So you can use it again, boot from a windows or linux CD and repartition, and reformat it.
Forensic data recovery can often retrieve data, even after so called secure erases are performed.
