Boston terriers are low- key, medium- size and low maintenance, grooming wise. You might also look at the Bichon Frise, the Miniature poodle, French Bulldog or the Whippet. Of course, some of the best dogs every are the mixes you rescue from the local shelter. If you can find out what the mix is, and you usually can these dayss, you can look the breeds up online and see their characteristics- size, temperament, health concerns, etc. By mid- size, I'm assuming you mean under 40 lbs.
