As you are a beginner,

The best bit of advice is to know that about 97% of songs can be broken down and played with what is called "the three chord trick". This means that you can play the "bones" of any tune with just three chords. The most important thing is to get the confidence of playing and to be able to change chords quickly and confidently. Once you can play these three chords fluently, then you can expand to learning other chords and you will also understand why and how music works.

It is pointless learning a song you don't like or have never heard before - so the best advice is to buy one of the 'Three chord trick' books that are available in most good music stockists. Have a look through and pick a song that you like or one you know well. Then use the book as your gateway to hearing other tunes and groups.

The guitar is quite hard to master and you can be put off in the early days if you make things too complex for yourself - let your enthusiasm drive you.........

Yes with practice it is, you have to have some talent. Playing chords is about the easiest thing to play, you can learn about five chords and plays hundreds of songs, ( C, D, Am, G, and E ), but my favorite fun thing to play as far as songs go is the acoustic guitar, and playing fingerstyle. I play classical guitar. Go on youtube and listen to Peo Kindgren play "Yesterday" by the Beatles, that's not hard to play, and you can get that book for fingerstyle guitar, and play that song the way that he does with a little work. The book is called, "The Very Best of Fingerstyle Guitar", by Hal Leonard, you can get this book at Sam Ash's !!!!!!!!!!

Simple classic rock songs are the easiest. Stick with AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, etc... Start out slow, til you can play the song steadily, then gradually increase your speed to the speed of the song. You will find that it will make your playing technique much better. Don't give up!
