It's ridiculous. The school system had already suspended the white kids for hanging the nooses in the trees. The suspension is on their permanent record, it will haunt them when they start applying to colleges. That should have been the end of it. The white kids were VERY wrong for doing that, and they stupidly thought it was funny, but they did not commit acts of physical violence the way the black kids did in retaliation.
I am not racist at all, but I do not condone violence by either side.

While I don't take as hard a line as you ... If you do the crime, you do the time.
By the same token, people should try to find those who put up the nooses and charge them with whatever is appropriate (I don't know LA law, so I don't know what they could be charged with).
