Ah, a cashless society. Isn't there something about that as one of the things leading to the apocalypse?
Using a card makes spending too easy. That gets people in trouble. If anything credit card use promotes criminal activities. You have obviously never had your credit card stolen or compromised. I did two years ago. I squelched it before the perps could charge anything but they tried and tried and are still trying to use that number to buy all sorts of stuff. It has meant a lot of hassle for me. I have had to make numerous phone calls explaining why the card is no good etc. Now I use cash whenever I can and credit card as little as possible.

You mean card that when used is like cash and money would be only a idea, IE. the money that you made each week on the job would be directly deposited into a financial account in a government guaranteed institution?
Because I think we already have that their Debit Cards and they are replacing cash in most transactions. I don't think the government will do away with cold hard cash in the near future.

Privacy issues, for one thing. Cash is anonymous, most non-cash payment systems are not.
Cash has already been eliminated for most large transactions, though, and as a result, 'laundering' non-cash money from illegal activities occurs on a mind-boggling scale.
So, it's not worth it to eliminate cash because you 1) infringe on the privacy of honest citizens 2) accomplish nothing, since criminals have been able to manage without large-denomination currency for a long time, anyway.

The only reason I can see why we shouldn't eliminate cash is because there are still people who can't get a bank account. I give my 3 year old a quarter or two if he sets the table for me, and I think it helps teach him responsibility. He wouldn't get the same effect from just telling him "I'm transferring 25 cents into your account.". Also, there are people out there with credit ratings that are so abysmal, they can't even get a checking account. What do THEY do for money?

It is very easy to steal credit card numbers and identities. Since more and more people are using plastic the price of things has edged up quite a bit. Those companies raise the prices on things to cover the fees that the credit cards charge.

If it weren't for all the apocalyptic theories about it, I think a cashless society would have a lot of really great advantages. That RFID chip implant in your right hand- you know, the one you wave across a scanner to pay for groceries at the store- is actually a pretty cool idea. But, it would allow the government too much control. Think about it, money means the difference between starving to death or eating, and if they control that, then they've really got us all by the balls.

Because it would be hard to get a lot of americans eager to do that. Poor people, elderly people, old-fashioned people like cash better. It really wouldn't make it harder for illegal activities. Criminals will just find new ways. I had fraud and it was done electronically, so I'm not really seeing or agreeing with your point of view.

Because trade will still be necessary, and without a form of currency whose value we can agree upon, we return to the barter system. If you don't like video games, then you wouldn't want to trade for my XBox 360, which I value at $300. You might value it at $50. A dollar bill is still worth $1 to everyone.
Getting rid of money won't stop crime from happening either.

identity theft is one of the top crimes in the country.... and I know what you're thinking it would eliminate you buying cocaine from your drug dealer but really it wouldn't money laundering on a small scale is much easier to do than on a large scale.
and all large scale drug deals the money is already being laundered.
