When the rocket burns its fuel the heated gas is expanding and correspondingly increasing pressure in all directions. If the igntion chamber were completely closed the pressure on every wall of this chamber would compensate the pressure on opposite wall and chamber would not move. But in rocket's chamber there is an outlet and the pressure on the wall opposite to this outlet is not compensated. As a results heated gas pushes on this side of the chamber but simply escapes from the outlet, thus creating propelling force.

There could be different explanations, for example, from the law of momentum conservation but I like mine because it demonstrates the source of the force.

the power of the engine pushing it upwards is stronger than the gravitational pull that the earth creats so that is why the rocket moves. Rocketry is actually a pretty good feild to get into. I find it to be quite interesting. but what you are looking for is the force and thrust of the engine that is causing the lift off.

The rocket "recoils" from the fast moving gases exiting the nozzle like a gun recoils when a fast moving bullet exists. It's all about conservation of momentum.
