My hgc level consistantly increased i was at over 9,000 last time they cheked. My midwife seemed negative about this pregnacy from the start I'm not sure why. My gestational sac grew, I had no cramping, only light pink spotting after intercourse. After the third ulta soud the midwife told me that my pregnancy was not valid because she did not see anything inside the sac. Has that ever happened to anyone or someone you know and turned out to have a normal pregnancy?

its still too early! good luck!

EDIT: let me add that my doctor seemed very negative at first. and gave me the biggest hug ever...i figured she didnt want to tell me there was something wrong. But it was still early..and wasnt enough time for my baby to be seen.

Was it a transvaginal ultrasound? If the u/s was only done from the outside of the abdomen, it's possible there's something there that was too small to show in the u/s. At six weeks, especially if there's a possibility that you miscalculated your dates, they will generally wait a week or two and so a follow-up u/s to make sure it really is a blighted ovum and not a viable pregnancy. It's possible.
I have had four miscarriages, all technically blighted ova - where the egg is fertilized and stops growing shortly after. What you are describing is exactly what happened to me. You can ask to wait another week or two and repeat the u/s if nothing happens in the mean time, or just wait it out. To give you some idea, my "missed miscarriages" were accompanied by increasing early hcg levels and all were carried for weeks after the embryo stopped growing. (As many as 6 or 7 weeks without any sign that I was going to lose the babies.
I am sorry that I don't have anything more encouraging to report. I've known women who had very early (like 5 weeks or so) ultrasounds where there was no heartbeat showing, but in a couple of weeks the beating heart was visible who went on to have babies, but I don't know anyone whose 6 week u/s showed an empty sac who went on to have a baby.
Is there any chance you're really more like 5 weeks?
P.S. I had D&Cs with all of mine, because you need a "clean sample" in order to get any genetic answers as to why it happened. I received answers (including the sexes of the babies I lost) in three of them, and it was incredibly helpful to have those answers as we tried to decide what to do. We adopted a child and nine months later, I gave birth to our second child.

It is possible for your body to believe you are pregnant even if there is nothing in the sac, so it will continue to grow. In 2 to 3 weeks, they should be giving you another u/s, and if the sac still appears empty, they will likely do a D & C.

On the up side, your dates could be a little off and it was simply too early to see anything, but typically a heartbeat is visible on a scan at 7 weeks.

I never thought that it could happen to me.
But it did. I had to have my tubes reconstructed because they were cut and burned after I had my youngest child now 16 years old. My boyfriend and I have been together for 11 years and we decided that I would have a baby. We heard of a great doctor in Tijuana, Mexico, and sure enough, the surgery was a success. I was pregnant three weeks after having the surgery. I started spotting when I was three weeks pregnant. I was repeatedly told by my doctor here in the US that it was normal for some women to spot or even have a period during the first trimester. One morning, as I watched TV I stared bleeding heavily. I had no pain of any kind. After three ultra sounds showing"just a sack" and some blood work done at the ER, It was determined that I had had a miscarriage. Apparently my baby started it's growing process, but at some point stopped. I am still trying to get over the pain that the miscarriage has left behind. Again, I never thougtht it could happen to me.

i would honestly go and get a second opinion. There was a show on tv last week were the couple went for their ultrasound and there was no heartbeat spotted and the dr started giving the lady her options as far as if she wanted to just let her body miscarry the baby or if she wanted them to go in and clean her and blah blah blah. The lady went to another dr becuase she just didnt want to believe that her baby was gone and sure enough...there was a heartbeat! There are alot of people that will go to the ultrasound and at 6 weeks only see the sac......if i was you i would definetly go get a second opinion. If your midwife has been negative about the pregnancy so far, how is she going to be during the rest of it?

I was 7wks and had the exact same thing happen. I am so sorry. If it were a valid pregnancy, you should have been able to see the heart beating. Don't give up trying though! I started trying again after 3 months, got pregnant and had a healthy baby boy!! Good luck and I will put you in my thoughts and prayers!!

I would get a second opinion from a doctor, just to be on the safe side. Is there any chance you might not be as far along as what you thought.

Is your cervix tilted? That can make it harder to see the baby as well. Which type of machine is she using a internal or an older extrnal one.

I would wait a few more weeks and have another one done to be on the safe side.

That's called a blighted ovum, where only the sac develops but not baby. It's the cause of half of all miscarriages. HCG levels go up at first with this, but then start going up really slow then dropping. At 6 weeks 4 days my levels were at 24,300. You should see a baby and a beating heart at 6 weeks.

It doesn't sound really good, but I would look into getting a second opinion
