I have tried the dark and light iron on transfer sheets for the ink-jet printer. Image is very nice but I just don't like the 'plastic' thats transfered, doesn't breathe. Screen printing is just overkill, but I have done it before. I would like to find a way to print on a ink-jet then transfer 'only the ink' onto the shirt. am I asking the impossible?

REPLY: I did try the cut-out idea, but the edges rolled on detailed areas, still "plasticy feel" though. thanks :)

There is an other question open on printing on shirts, and the other person who answered there talked about a kind of 'printer fabric' which you would print on and then sew onto your shirt.
I have never seen it, nor do I understand it, but here is a link to that question, (it is the second answers, the lower half of the answer):

If the link does not work, the question was asked 16 hours ago, it will be several pages back in the index.

try going to a craft store.

One thing you can do is buy fabric markers, where you can trace your image directly on the shirt witht he markers, but for that I would suggest a steady hand.
Another alternative is crayola fabric crayons. They are an iron-on but you draw the image on a normal sheet of paper(reversed) then place the side w the image onto the shirt and iron it on. It has pretty good results, and if you mess it up on the paper you can just do it over before transfering it.
Both are breathable as they go directly on the clothes, good luck.

this might not help but you can take it to a place and they will embroider the design you want. Some places can even do photos. The nice part is that it doesnt fade.

can't you just print it out and cut out the extra "plastic"?
