a prime number doesn't have any factors (other than itself and the number 1). Like 7, you can't divide it out, or 13, or 23, or 37, or 101 -- no factors.

On the other hand... 6 is a composite number: 2*3
8 is composite: 4*2 or 2*2*2
25 is composite 5*5
1000 is composite: 2*2*2*5*5*5

Composite numbers can be factored.

prime number = a whole number greater than 1 and only has 2 factors 1 and itself e.g prime numbers between 1 and 50 are , 2,3,5,7,11, 13 ,17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, (29 is a prime number because it only has 2 factors 1 and 29 )

composite number=a whole number greater than 1 than has more than 2 factors (14 is composite because there is more than 2 factors 1 , 2 ,7 , 14 )

1 is not a prime or a composite number as there is only 1 factor

Prime Numbers and Composite Numbers
Note: This is only about whole numbers (integers) greater than 1
In other words: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,... etc

A Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1, or itself.


A Composite Number can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 or itself.

(So, any whole number greater than 1 is either prime or composite)

prime is a number that can only be divided by 1 and its self..example 11...11/11= 1 and 11/1=11...composite numbers can be divided by other numbers other than 1 and itself...example...21/3= 7 amd so on...
