If you have not reported to the police you will never get it back. Otherwise, you should have some evidence it was yours like something with a serial number.

contact microsoft and ask tem to give you the info of where it is being logged online at. Every computer has an individual windows key number which is traceable by microsoft. It will tell microsoft what internet provider they are using and they will be able to assist you by contacting the provider that the thief is using.Whoever stole the computer CANNOT change the windows key # unless if they update to a different version of windows than your lap top is running and is the expense to upgrade really worth it to the thief? Call the person you said stole it and explain that to him/her and give them 1 last chance to return it.If they still deny it then proceed with my advice.
ALL computers are traceable! How do you think people committing crimes online are caught? Watch the video below.

How do you KNOW they took it? If they did and they will talk to you there are ways to get them to admit it. If you have direct evidence call the police. At least file a report now so when if you do recover it or find out the truth you'll have the police report.
Good luck

all the answers above are viable and logical-but i still prefer to do things my way if someone steals from me as happened a few years ago when a thieving toerag swiped my amp-he was given seven days to return it-his protestations of innocence cut no ice-i get my property back or i will take it out of his miserable hide-i got my amp back!!.

i'd report it to the police as stolen but i dont know what else you can do. except MARK all your property with invisible ink from now on, so if the police recover anything in the future, they'll know who to return it to.
I am sorry.
