Carlos Zambrano is melting down because the Cubs are expecting some leadership out of him due to his new monster contract. The problem: Carlos Zambrano is no leader! Thats right. I said it.

Zambrano is a bully and a jerk and a crybaby. He's not a good example for young kids. He acts like a psycho every time he has a bad day. That ain't leadership!!

Zambrano is the new John Rocker and he's gonna melt down and go away just like Rocker did.

Zambrano only goes nuts when he is having a really bad day or is provoked. Either way the guy cares about playing well and not letting his team down.

We could do without the antics but his passion for the game is great.

You mean to tell me Roger Clemens or Randy Johnson never showed emotion on the mound? Johan Santana or CC Sabathia never lose their composure after getting touched up?

Carlos Zambrano is no different than any other 'ace' or elite starter in baseball, he just marches to his own beat. A Greg Maddux he is not, but he is every bit as passionate about this game.

How can you say Zambrano is not a leader? When he was the first pitcher in '07 to reach 14 wins and had a 1.xx ERA since the fight with Barrett, everyone was behind him. Now he's in the worst slump of his career and everyone wants him flippin pizza's? Maybe management should have listened when he said he didn't want to negotiate any contract details during the season.

Carlos Zambrano is one of the best pitchers in the game right now and will turn it around in time for his next start. He's too good not to and his career numbers prove that. The bottom line is that he's a horse and any other team would pay dearly to make him a part of their staff. Since '03, he's been a part of the regular rotation and has given his team 13+ wins and over 200 innings pitched each year.

> Also, I'm not sure he was booed off the field on Monday as much as Will Ohman was getting booed as he was taking the field in relief.

Are you Michael Barrett or just another jealous Cardinals fan? Zambrano has been pitching poorly of late, but it may just be arm fatigue this year. He's been very inconsistent with his sinker, which spells big trouble for him. I'm worried about the pennant race, but Z's also capable of pulling out of a bad spell in a hurry.

As for the other stuff, he needs to mature a little, but I love his competitive fire. He just needs to find a better way of releasing his anger than punching himself on the mound. I expect a different Zambrano next season. Comparing Z with John Rocker is ridiculous; Rocker was a flash in the pan with a lot of personal demons that made it easy for his teams to kick him down the road when they tired of his antics. The Cubs knew what they were getting when they offered him the huge contract extension, and I doubt they would have given it to him had his medical and psychological reports been that bad.

Go Cubs Go!

I disagree. I enjoy watching Carlos's emotions on the mound. It's nice to see when a player actually cares about the game and the team, so many of these guys are all about the dollar signs and could care less about anything else. Carlos actually took less than market value to stay with the Cubs. I think he'll come back in time to take us to playoffs.

He's passionate about the game and that's what I want in a Cubbie.

I can't believe I'm defending a Cub player but just because he has a losing streak doesn't mean he's bad. Everybody in MLB has a slump and he's having one now. I just hope he continues to carry it for the rest of the year. :) Yeah he may have a bad attitude when things don't go his way doesn't mean he's a bull, jerk, and crybaby. I feel bad for him getting booed off the plate yesterday. Nobody does. Wow I really can't believe I just defended him but oh well. :)

At least he's still able to pitch. Look at Dodgers' "newest star" Jason Schmidt, whose contract is also up to the heavens. He conked out after about six weeks.

I wish I could get paid 9m/yr to sit and watch the game.

I'm a Cub fan , but this guy is a moron. I'm tired of his BS. Clemens and Johnson show emotion. but not like this nutbag. He's way over the top and obviously can't handle his emotions.

enable the guy talk for himself, if he can't provide a solid and sparkling clarification, then decide him. people who stay in glass residences shouldn't throw stones. enable each and all the playing cards circulate on the table and then us of a, settle on who you prefer as President. I even have not something against Obama, yet am putting my weight in the back of a smarter head of McCain.

I think you are right on. Not a wise decision at all signing him but desperation for pitching can cloud a GMs judgment.
