What is the worst trade of all time and the worst trade your team ever made? As a Red Sox fan, the 2 that come to mind are of course Babe Ruth, and then Jeff Bagwell to the Astros for Larry Anderson in 1990.

Well Ruth wasn't a trade as he was sold to the Yankees for 100000.00 to the cash strapped owner of the Redsox.
The worst trade I ever saw was the 1971 trade of Nolan Ryan to the California Angels for a washed up Jim Fregosi. Ryan wnet on to an all-star career with the Angels and Astros.

If you're a Cubs' fan, then Eddie Broglio on June 15, 1964, from the St. Louis Cardinals for some hack second-string outfielder named Lou Brock.

The All-Star and 20-game winning pitcher went into the tank and the stringy bench rider went to the Hall of Fame!

I would have to say the 2000 five player trade that sent Ken Griffey Jr. to the Reds'.

This is probably one of the worst mistakes the Mariners' have ever made because all we got in return were: Pitcher Brett Tomko and outfielder Mike Cameron, along with a pair of minor leaguers: infielder Antonio Perez and right-hander Jake Meyer. None of them did squat for us except for Cameron who is now playing for the Padres.

Perhaps never before has such a great player been traded in his prime. Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby and Frank Robinson are others that come to mind.

Add Sparky Lyle to NYY for Danny Cater to that list also.

But the Bagwell one was huge. Hall of fame career in exchange for 1 save. As I remember it, Lou Gorman later admitted he had never seen Bagwell play.

At least the Sox got some money for Ruth.

The Mets trading Nolan Ryan to the Angels after the 1971 season for Jim Fregosi.

In addition to Ryan, the Angels also got Francisco Estrada (C), Don Rose (P) and LeRoy Stanton (OF).

Fregosi did "squat" for the Mets, and Ryan went to the HOF and pitched 7 no-hitters. Someone had their head up their *** that day.

I dont know as a yankee fan i would have to say the babe for the sox, and amazing for us!!! But the yankees cant seem to get good pitching trades. Now lately they have been signing a few good ones, Joba, Edwar Ramirez, and Ian Kennedy, bad ones like Jared Wright, Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, and even Carl Pavano who I cant believe is still with the yanks, just cant seem to do a lot. I think it odd that we traded Shean Chicoun cause i like im.

The Twins Trading A.J. Pierzynski to the Giants was a good trade. We got Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano and a guy named Boof plus getting rid of A.J. allowed us to call up Mauer, I liked it.

First off...DAVID WRIGHT WAS NOT TRADED! Secondly, the Twins did not trade Ortiz, they cut him (even worse!)

Now to your question: VON HAYES for 5 players (including Julio Franco)...Decmeber 9th 1982 was known as a bad day for Phillies fans! While not a bad player for the Phils he was never the star that he was expected to be!
