No. Freemansonry was a big deal in the 18th century, and 'masonic lodges' were popular even among the middle class mid-century, but they're not significant today.

It would be against everything we believe in to "run" politics in any country. Freemasons vow to respect and serve their government as well as they can with their ideals and programmes. Taking the kind of deviantly manipulative stance you cite would contradict that.
It may well be true though that freemasonry draws many powerful men, so if you noticed a high incidence of membership among politicians, then that only goes to show that these politicians are also freemasons. They didn't need to be that to be able to become politicians, you see.

No. There has not been a Freemason president since Ford - although Bob Dole is a Freemason, but he's long out of politics.
To some other responses:
* "you bet" please provide some proof
* I wouldn't refer to them as clowns, they provide a great deal of service to their communities and the humanity in general --- over $1 billion in charity each year just in the USA - although the Freemasons I know would not care if you called them clowns
* For info on Foucault's Pendulum ---- http://www.masonicinfo.com/roger.htm and another book by Umberto --- http://www.masonicinfo.com/books/theplot.htm

No, we aren't running american politics, not at the national or state level. If we WERE running the country, I think we would do a much better job.

No, their role was diminished to nothing.
Freemasons are just a bunch of clowns.
Read "Foucault's Pendulum" by Umberto Eco.
