I agree..dont go. Seriously. If you *must* go....and you are serious about your hearing...wear E.A.R foam plugs PROPERLY inserted....AND....an over the ear headphone, again PROPERLY placed.

You should check with your doctor because that is not normal to still have ringing in your ears after a new years eve concert. This may be a sign of something more serious. Next time try using rubber,latex, or foam earplugs. The foam ones are hard to stay in place.
I hope the concert was worth it!

They make earplugs specifically for musicians that reduces the volume without muffling the sound. You still get 100% of the music, just quieter. And for the record, the only way you'll suffer any permanent damage is if you are within 20-30 feet of the speakers. Sound waves weaken with distance, so if you are far enough away the decibel level will decrease to a safe level for short term exposure (less than 3 hours or so)

Stay outside, and don't go to the concert.
If you do go, don't sit in front of the speakers, and wear the foam earplugs that you stick inside your ears.
