My computer automatically changes the date back to Jan. 01, 2000, everytime I shut it down. Please help, thank you.

The little battery is the CMOS battery. I have never seen one die. They typically last quite a long time. But that still sounds like your problem. It looks like a big watch battery, and is mounted on your motherboard. Some are horizontal, others vertical, just depends on you motherboard. You should be able to pick one up at just about any PC store. Hope this helps!

Battery is dead. Computers have a little disc battery on the motherboard that supplies a small amount of voltage to keep things like the clock running when shut off.

Take the cover off, look for the battery and replace it.
