An "anchor baby" is a child that a criminal alien conceives and gives birth to in this country simply as a means to secure citizenship.
Since all babies born in this country are automatically American citizens, the children of criminal aliens born in this country also become American citizens. Once the "hard working" criminal alien is the parent of a US citizen, they can them attempt to exploit this fact to become a citizen themselves and begin milking the US welfare system.
There are actually coyotes (criminal alien smugglers) that specialize in bringing 9 month pregnant women into this country so that they can drop their anchor baby on US soil and begin this process.
Not only is this practice unfair to American taxpayers, who end up supporting the anchor baby, its parents, and all the relatives they are able to slip through in the deal, but it is also unfair to the "anchor babies" who are usually abandoned after their parents receive citizenship and begin receiving their welfare checks.

A foreign pregnant woman comes here just to deliver her baby which makes the baby automatically an American Citizen and entitles the child to Medicade to pay for all hospital costs and serve as an anchor to allow the woman to stay, too. Basically people are against it because it is an abuse of the law designed to protect children and a way to bypass immigration regulations.

The left doesn't want to break up families of illegals. So when an illegal has a baby here in the US, even if it was concieved in another country, it becomes a US citizen. So under current policy we don't usually deport those who have children here. So the child act as a preverbial anchor for the mother. The left in general would rather keep the family together even if they are illegal than force the parents to leave the kid here, or take the kid back to their country.

An anchor baby is a child born in a country specifically to receive citizenship rights, and thereby 'anchor' the child's family to the country in which it was born. Immigration reductionists often cite this practice as a demonstration of a failure in a nation's immigration policy.
I don't know why you recieved the notice, better luck this time.

A child born in the USA from an illegal alien. That child automatically becomes a US citizen. That law is very outdated and was not intended to be used for what it's now being used for.
Many foriegn pregnant women come here to have their babies, and then guess what? They stay. Then the taxpayer has yet another burden to pay for.
That law should have been struck down long ago.

It's a term used to describe someone who comes to a country and has a baby for the purpose of obtaining citizenship for the baby and therefore, residency for the parents.
People are against it because it's sneaky and completely inconsiderate.
edit: angelus- I'm almost as far left as it gets, but I'm not for illegal immigration. I think this is an issue that has nothing to do with political affliation ie. Bush is perfectly happy for illegals to be here.

"Anchor baby" is a term given to the child of illegal immigrants who was born inside the US.
****
On a side note, I got a question deleted over the weekend too. People are using the abuse flag as a weapon nowadays to silence the opposing view.

an anchor baby is a child born in the united states to illegal aliens.
the child would be a united states citizen, all persons born in the u.s. are citizens.
the people who are upset about it dislike that part of the constitution. they think you should be required to have at least one parent who is a citizen.
i'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is.

A child born inside the U S by anyone automatically is a Citizen... I am against this.. mainly because it continously gets abused and we have to pick up the medical bills because the border jumpers sneak in and have a child here for the FREE health care..
