I admired McCain 5-8 years ago. He served his country to the utmost. He had some good ideas for affecting much-needed change. You know you are doing something right and honorable when you are being attacked by Limbaugh.
Then he became ... one of them.

ALASPADA –
Actually, the gang of 14 was his peak as far as far as being a legitimate Presidential candidate is concerned. He scored points with moderate Republicans (who will rid themselves of the right-wing power nitwits as soon as the new group is sworn in after the 2008 elections); moderate Democrats; and Independents.
The killer for McCain was when he sucked up to Bush (who the whole world knows he passionately hates) in the 2006 Presidential race. That, and the subsequent Jerry Farwell (who he also passionately hated) sucking-up episode, cost him every Independent and moderate Party member in the nation because it made him seem either 1) desperate to the point of being a total political whore; or 2) insane. Here in Arizona is it believed that Nos. 1 and 2 are both true, and it is doubtful that he could even carry his home state in a Presidential election.

Senator McCain has never been a darling of the right wing or he would of been the candidate for President for the party in past years. His campaign finance reform support, leading the Gang of 14 on judicial nominees, knockout views on the religious right, etc have never endeared him to the Right wing of the party.

I try not to talk bad about McCain. I admire him as a war hero. I think he did good, considering. But I honestly wouldn't have voted for him.

He is too far to the left to appeal to real conservatives, he should have stayed where he was in the first place, now, he is just down and out!
